Aztec has worked closely with nearly all of Colorado’s jurisdictions, agencies, and/or municipalities since our inception. Our preparation of right-of-way mapping for various counties has garnered us a unique understanding of Colorado’s roadway and utility backbone, and the interface with CDOT on many of our projects has led to strong relationships throughout the organization and a profound understanding of CDOT standards. From water treatment plants to prison utilities, from taxiways to golf courses, Aztec has done it all. To describe our experience in the arena of public works, we can offer:
- We excel in situations where two or more agencies are involved
- Projects have varied from a 72” waterline in rugged terrain at 10,000 FT above sea level to a network of pipes across an entire jurisdiction
- We enjoy working with Public Works agencies and are proud to be improving the quality of life here in Colorado while also maximizing each tax dollar received
- Our existing relationships and understanding of various standards enables us to expedite potentially difficult projects
- We have experience with almost every possible type of road staking, from master-planned monolithic curb to airport paving and taxiway lights
We understand the importance of timely and quality surveys, especially as the value of land increases and construction costs escalate in the wake of the Recession. During our nearly 20 years in business, we have developed and implemented the processes needed to ensure high quality, cost effective, and timely delivery for all of our clients and their varying survey needs.

Aztec has abundant experience with GPS services and GIS networks, including:
Project Control – Utilizing the latest GPS technology ensure accurate mapping and calculations which then lead to successful construction projects. Further, our GPS department has built an extensive database of county and municipal monuments, allowing us to easily tie survey products to monument networks.
Geodetic Control Networks – Aztec has an extensive resume of establishing large-scale, high accuracy control networks. We utilize this network to provide the framework for permanent monumentation on large and small projects.
The ability to read and interpret engineering plans and provide the necessary field staking is one of the mainstays of our business. Accuracy in the pre-design, design, and engineering phases is vital to proper and timely construction, and our staff are well-versed in working with engineers and contractors to ensure accuracy. For example, our field procedures are geared toward eliminating staking errors and good communication is at the forefront of our project management approach. We take an active and essential role in the construction project, and we will work diligently to accomplish our tasks with no mistakes.
We have established Housing and Land Development departments with the in-house expertise to create overall base maps which specify local building regulations for setbacks, building heights, right-of-ways, open space, and future development areas. These departments are built to offer unparalleled expertise in housing and land development.
For the past year, Aztec Consultants has successfully implemented High Definition Survey (HDS) into its existing survey workflows using the Leica P30 terrestrial scanner. Whether you call it 3D Laser Imaging, 3D Laser Scanning, 3D Laser Surveying or High-definition Surveying this technology augments traditional survey methods by accurately collecting millions of points per second with total station accuracy making this an ideal tool to safely and efficiently survey complicated and/or dangerous projects such as busy intersections, treacherous terrain or environments, etc. Additional HDS scanning can be used for:
- Topo and ALTA surveys
- Transportations Corridors
- Historical Preservation
- Detailed Measurements
- Surveying hard-to-reach areas
- Digital 3D Photos
- Video of Surveys
